Pyschotherapy ,Hypnotherapy and EMDR
All psychological therapies can be called pyschotherapies I will explain the main differences and help you to choose what your preferred mode of treatment might be . I have a number of trainings and may offer the perfect blend of them for your best result.
Psychotherapy, often referred to as talking therapy, is a collaborative process where individuals work with a trained mental health professional to explore and resolve emotional, behavioral, or relational challenges. Sessions last approximately 50 minutes and are usually held once or twice a week, sometimes fortnightly. You can continue to have sessions for as long as you like. It is primarily delivered through structured sessions—either one-on-one, in groups, or with families—conducted in person or video call. By using evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or psychodynamic approaches, psychotherapy helps people identify the purpose and root causes of their distress and develop healthier coping mechanisms. As a transpersonal psychotherapist I do not leave any part of you behind. Ultimately, it empowers individuals to break negative patterns, improve their mental well-being, and navigate life's complexities with greater resilience and clarity.
Hypnotherapy is a safe, evidence-based therapeutic practice that uses guided hypnosis to induce a state of deep relaxation and heightened focus. A session takes up to 90 minutes and is the original single session therapy although more than one session may be needed. In this "trance-like" state—which is similar to being absorbed in a book or daydreaming—the mind becomes more open to positive suggestions that can help reframe unhelpful thoughts or behaviors. Unlike stage performances, clinical hypnotherapy is not "mind control"; you remain fully conscious, aware of your surroundings, and in control of your actions at all times. It is considered a low-risk, non-invasive complementary therapy that can help with a wide range of issues, including:
• Mental Health: Managing anxiety, stress, intrusive thoughts.
• Physical Health: Reducing chronic pain, symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and childbirth also known as hypnobirthing
• Behavioural Change: Stop smoking, lose weight, and overcome phobias.
• Wellness: Improving sleep quality, building self-confidence, and enhancing focus or performance.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy method designed to help the brain reprocess traumatic or distressing memories. Sessions last up to 90 minutes and the protocol is to have 6 sessions. It works by using bilateral stimulation—typically rhythmic left-to-right eye movements, but sometimes tapping or sounds—while the person briefly focuses on a disturbing memory.
How EMDR Helps
The goal is to "unstick" memories that the brain has stored in a dysfunctional, highly emotional way.
• Reduces Emotional Impact: It dampens the intense fear or pain associated with a memory, making it feel like a "normal" part of the past rather than a present threat.
• Changes Beliefs: It helps replace negative self-beliefs (e.g., "I'm not safe") with positive ones (e.g., "I survived and I'm safe now").
• Faster Results: Many people experience significant relief in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.
• Minimal Talking: Unlike most therapies, you don't have to describe your trauma in great detail to see improvements.
